In the second quarter of this year, foreigners have purchased 13.06% of total property sold nationwide. In absolute numbers, foreigners have purchased 16,240 homes, according to data from the Real Estate Registry Statistics (ERI) of the Association of Property Registrars.
Foreign demand remains at a level similar to last year, according to the Registrar's Office. However, the number of sales has increased, which translates into more homes sold to foreigners.
Those born in the United Kingdom once again stand as the international buyers who buy more houses in Spanish territory. Almost 2% of the total transactions carried out in the second quarter of this year were made by British citizens, resulting in a purchase figure above 2,300 properties.
British citizenship accounted for 14.9% of purchases made by foreign nationals between April and June 2017, a percentage that reverses the downward trend that had dragged on for two years. In fact, in the first quarter of this year, the purchase of real estate by citizens of the United Kingdom hovered historic lows by placing below 14.5% of total foreign buyers.
