The latest data from the sector come to indicate that 2016 could close with a figure close to 380,000 operations, this would be a 15% increase over the previous year. The figures for 2007 are still far off, in the middle of the real estate bubble, when 800,000 operations were reached.
Since 2014, there has been a change in trend. On the one hand, the sale began to pick up, and with this, banks started to make credit flow, and they granted more mortgages. In the middle of 2016, these two variables grow at a two-digit pace, which invites optimism.
While the data on the sale and the mortgage concessions soar, the price of housing seems to do so more moderately. The data of each of the sources only seems to coincide for now in one thing, and is that the trend goes in the same direction: up. These sources are the National Institute of Statistics (INE), the Registrar's College, the Ministry of Development and the General Council of Notaries.
It seems that there is again interest in new housing, and that the data still do not reflect it. Experts seem to agree that during 2017 and 2018 we will see the cranes again in many places, although certainly not at the level of the bubble years. The reason why the new work has not reached the official data is because the houses bought on plane take more time in writing.
