The purchase and sale of houses in Spain increased by 10.7% in the second quarter of 2017

During the last twelve months, 429,624 housing purchase and sale transactions were carried out.

The number of housing sales registered in the property records reached 119,408 in the second quarter of the year, 10.7% higher than the same period in 2016 and the highest since fiscal year 2011.

Compared to the previous quarter, the purchase and sale of housing grew by 5%, according to data from the real estate statistics of the Association of Registrars of Spain.

In the last twelve months, the number of housing sales totaled 429,624 operations, representing a rebound of 11.9% and the highest year-on-year figure for the last six years.

Resale housing in record numbers.

By type of housing, operations on new homes fell by almost 2.1% over the first quarter, with 20,065 operations, in contrast to the 99,343 transactions of second-hand homes, the highest figure in ten years and 6.5% higher than the previous quarter.

Increases the purchase of homes by foreigners.

According to the registrars, 13.1% of the purchases registered in the second quarter were made abroad, with 15,600 transactions, while in interannual securities the proportion of transactions carried out by non-Spanish citizens stood at 13.2%, remaining stable at historical highs, with about 56,600 annual purchases.

The British, the nacionality who buy the most in Spain.

The British are the ones that make the most purchases, 14.9% of the total operations of foreigners. The purchase of housing made by citizens of this nationality increased by 14.5% in the second quarter in relation to the first, when a historic low was reached.

The British followed the French (8.5% of the total purchases of foreigners), Germans (7.8%), Belgians (6.4%), Italians and Swedes (6.2%), Romanians 4%), Moroccans (4.3%) and Chinese (4.1%).
